The Rise of China coincides with the advent of the globalization of our economic life through trade and finance. It is a remarkable development that has lifted a billion people out of poverty. In the past 30 years, China has placed itself at the center of our current economic order, and is assuming a similar role geopolitically. This raises important questions about the role of the United States as a global leader. The current conflicts over trade and tariffs, intellectual property rights, as well as Hong Kong and South China Sea show how economic issues are geopolitical, and how geopolitics are economic. In this webinar, we want to begin a conversation about the past, present and future of our geopolitical and economic order.
