Description
The YSI idea lab @ IAFFE 2023 pre-conference is a co-creative and participatory workshop were young scholars can meet to discuss the most pressing questions of our field and develop joint projects in oder to address them.
The first part of the day will consist of a series of short presentations by young scholars. They will introduce to the group a key economic questions on the theme of Gender and Economics in the Global South (proposed by themselves through the application process) and provide some background to explain the importance of addressing this question.
After a short break, the group will reconvene to figure out together concrete project ideas that we can do to tackle these questions. We will split participants into smaller groups based on correlated themes and they will work on refining their questions and envisioning what type of activities are better suited to answer them. We will then go back to the bigger group and used the remaining time for de-briefing and feedback. By the end of the day, each group will submit a project proposal to the YSI Gender and Economics Working Group.
The activity will be open to all IAFFE pre-conference participants, although the presentations/key economics questions will be pre-selected.
Application process: Participants who wish will have to apply through the YSI website. In order to be considered, they will need to propose a key economic question that falls under the umbrella of gender and economics in the global south and briefly explain the rationale for this choice. Please apply before May 4thExtended Dealine May 7th. Accepted participants will be notified by May 10th.
Selected participants who are not based in Cape Town or do not have access to institutional funding will receive a small travel stipend to cover their flight to the conference city and lodging in Cape Town for the duration of the conference and pre-conference. Unfortunately, YSI cannot cover conference fees for participants.
Eligibility criteria: The only requirement for applying is having a profile on the YSI website. All IAFFE members who self-identify as Young Scholars are welcome to apply. Participants who have submitted a paper for the IAFFE conference are welcome to apply for this session as well; however, if they are already receiving funding through IAFFE or other organisations for attending this conference, they will be ineligible to receive a YSI travel stipend.
