The Italian Cultural Institutes of Melbourne and Sydney are collaborating again on another thought-provoking lecture dedicated to the economic history of Europe, in particular since the end of WWII. The lecture will be held by Prof. Joseph Halevi, retired Professor at the Department of Political Economy at the University of Sydney and a member of the faculty of the International University College of Turin.
This talk is based on the research on the political economy of Europe Prof. Halevi has undertaken for the Institute for New Economic Thinking in New York from 2017 to the end of 2019, which resulted in the publication on their website of three papers:

The three papers are now being extended into a book.
The purpose of the talk is to highlight the main phases of the process of European economic integration and to single out Italy's role and position in it. In particular, Prof. Halevi will point out how Italy and Germany represented right from the start the dual dimension of export oriented growth and integration, which in a nutshell encapsulated the duality of the EU well before its formation. It is on such a duality, which is now engulfing a larger number of countries, that the economic dynamics of the EU is being played out.
