Description

Join us for an exciting workshop with renowned economist Ha-Joon Chang!
Workshop will take place in-person only.

*PLEASE NOTE: this event has been updated to take place between 2-4pm *

The workshop is a unique interactive opportunity to practise your economics knowledge and learn how to explain economics without the jargon. This is an essential skill whether you decide to have a career as an economist or whether you are asked by friends and family what an economic concept is and why it matters.

The workshop will be led by Ha-Joon Chang, a renowned development economist who has written several books including *"Kicking Away the Ladder: Development Strategy in Historical Perspective", and *"23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism".

Why is this an important skill?

What makes economics so confusing to communicate to someone who has not studied the subject? When did you last see an economist on TV explaining economic concepts? Did you think their explanation was clear? Have you been asked by friends and family to explain what is happening with inflation or why growth matters so much? Do you want to improve your skills for personal reasons or to help with a future career in economics?

Studying economics and knowing your demand and supply curve is half of the challenge. The other half is being able to explain the importance of the subject to those who have not studied it and using this to learn ways in which to bring in different perspectives.

Who is this workshop for?

Anyone who has studied economics before! If you have taken economics previously, or are taking related modules in your current course, you are encouraged to apply!
