Description

The Escuela Interdisciplinaria de Altos Estudios Sociales (Escuela IDAES) of the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM) stands out as a Social Sciences epicenter with emphasis in Cultural and Economic studies. It is a young institution with a great projection. Most of its professors studied abroad, which allowed it to build research networks across Latin America, Europe and USA, and are part of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET). Most of the graduate students and young scholars come from diverse backgrounds, refreshing ideas and promoting and strengthening exchange with partner universities. Both its characteristic interdisciplinary approach to conduct research, and an active promotion to build international networks with other academic institutions, allow their faculty and fellows to keep up the latest tendencies and discussions.

The Conference of Social Studies of the Economy has been organized since 2006. This event has been consolidated as an interdisciplinary space based on the progressive inclusion of students, professors, fellows and researchers from different backgrounds and latitudes. Establishing a constant discussion with the neoclassical-orthodox economics, the space achieves the convergence of sociologists, anthropologists, political scientists, historians and economists from different latitudes such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, France and the United States, among others. The Conference on Social Studies of Economics is the expression of the process of formation of an intellectual field that, while promoting and stimulating the production of knowledge, allows a true circulation of social, political and cultural ideas about economic processes and objects.

In 2022, the XIV edition of the Conference on Social Studies of the Economy aims to recover and discuss the research that has been progressively consolidated in our region over the last decades. In the agenda of problems, the approach, from both micro and macro social perspectives, of development models has been highlighted; the shaping of social inequalities and their recent transformations; the dynamics of debt in states, households and enterprises; the monetary and financial repertoires; relations between states and markets; the economic and political action of firms and entrepreneurs; the popular economy and informal markets; among others; seeking to analyze the specificities that these processes acquire in Latin American capitalisms.

The next conference will take place from November 14 to 18, 2022 in Buenos Aires (Volta Building, IDAES, Universidad Nacional de San Martín). It's the 14th meeting and the first one since the COVID pandemic.
