Dear All,
A message from the SESYNC below. Would be a great interdisciplinary collaborative research opportunity. Reply to the whole YSI list if you are interested in forming a team!

Cheers,

The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) in Annapolis, Maryland, USA invites proposals from highly qualified PhD students interested in conducting collaborative, socio-environmental synthesis research (i.e. “Graduate Pursuits”) alongside their doctoral degrees.
Graduate Pursuits are supported for a period of 18 months as part of the first-of-its kind Graduate Student Research Program at SESYNC. Support centers around travel, meals, and lodging for 3–4 in-person meetings at SESYNC, as well as a suite of services ranging from team facilitation and leadership training, to computational and cyber infrastructure resources and data acquisition, to science communication and outreach.
Funded by the National Science Foundation, SESYNC is particularly interested in Graduate Pursuit proposals that bring together diverse backgrounds, disciplines, and data in novel, integrative ways to solve increasingly complex environmental issues. Graduate Pursuit proposals that are designed to be applicable or generalizable across multiple locations and scales and those with potential to contribute to decision-making and non-academic communities are also of special interest.
Multiple teams are currently in development and looking to add student collaborators interested in the following broad topics:
- S-E outcomes of international agricultural trade relations (in need of trade, ag. and conservation policy expertise)
- Spatial trends of water quality inequality in Rural America (in need of GIS expertise)
- Feedbacks between public perceptions, policies and mangrove ecosystem biodiversity (in need of policy expertise)
- Fire management and S-E effects in an era of wildfire intensification (in need of resource governance, sociology, public health expertise)
- Food-energy relations in the wake of large-scale disasters (in need of remote sensing, geomorphological, climate modeling expertise)
Contact Dr. Nicole Motzer – SESYNC Graduate Program Manager – at nmotzer@sesync.org for additional details, to connect with a team, or to pitch a Graduate Pursuit idea of your own! The Request for Proposals can be found here, while previously supported graduate teams are listed here. Proposals are due November 2, 2018. International students and those attending institutions outside of the US are encouraged to apply.
Thanks very much!
