The Sustainability WG invites Nicolas Maennling and Perrine Toledano from the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) to discuss and present their findings from a recent report "The Renewable Power of the Mine". The report is the most comprehensive study to date on how the extractive sector has been integrating renewables in their mining operations. About:
Nicolas Maennling leads the economics and policy research at CCSI. At CCSI he works on designing strategies and tools to maximize the benefits and minimize the negative externalities of extractive industry investments. He has led trainings and advisory projects on taxation systems, financial modeling, linkages to extractive industry projects, economic diversification, revenue management and sub-national distribution systems. Recently his focus has been on supporting governments and companies to integrate the SDGs in their strategies, and assessing how the extractive industry sector can support the energy transition. He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Birmingham (UK) and a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Warwick (UK).
Perrine Toledano heads the CCSI’s focus on extractive industries and sustainable development. She leads research, training and advisory projects on fiscal regimes, financial modeling, leveraging extractive industry investments in infrastructures for broader development. Recently, her research and advisory work focus on the impact of the energy transition and the SDGs on extractive industry investments and resource rich countries. She has led several projects in developing countries and assisted governments. Her experience includes auditing, financial analysis, IT for capital markets, public policy evaluation and cross-border project management. She has a Masters of Business Administration from ESSEC in Paris, France, and a Masters of Public Administration from Columbia University.
