Workshop ‘Urban Economics Frontiers: LSUP, Real Estate and Gentrification’

The workshop is going to be an open and diverse space for sharing reflections on the state-of-the-art of Urban Economics and the topics of large-scale urban projects, real estate dynamics and gentrification. On one hand, the Workshop is going to offer an opportunity to learning and theoretical discussion, with a mini-course and with round-tables. On the other hand, it is going to socialize the results of the research project “Large-scale urban projects: the State and the Gentrification on the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte”, a research project conducted by Cedeplar/UFMG and funded by Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. This is going to be a moment for renowned experts in the field debate the empirical results of this research.
The participation of young scholars is encouraged, and generously supported by the Institute of New Economic Thinking, through its Young Scholars Initiative, promoting the dissemination of plural academic debate. The young scholars who wish travel stipends must meet the following requirements to participate:
i) To be interested on the fields of Urban and Regional Economics, Economic Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Sociology or Urban and Regional Studies. We encourage the applications of students who are pursuing a postgraduate or doctorate in these fields.
ii) Applicants must provide their basic info (full name, gender, degree, institutional affiliation, nationality) and send a motivation letter (max. 400 words) justifying their interested in the event, the previous relationship with the topics and the current work they have been developing. The participant must also make his racial self-declaration. Email: urban@youngscholarsinitiative.org
iii) To be based in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
For the selected young scholars who do not lives in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, we will offer travel stipends (air tickets or buses). Diversity criteria (regions, gender and race) will be considered in the selection process.
