Panel: Rethinking Development in a Growingly Unequal World
The world today is more unequal than ever before and the challenges of poverty and environmental degradation continue to persist. To tackle these challenges, it is crucial to rethink development approaches and strategies which are fit for the 21st century. To do so, the Young Scholars Working Groups on Economic Development and Inequality invite young scholars to present their research on rethinking development in a growingly unequal world at the 25th Annual Conference of the Association for Heterodox Economics. We welcome papers from postgraduate and early career researchers. The papers could explore, but are not limited to, the following themes:
Critiques of traditional development approaches and the need for alternative strategies.
Innovative approaches to addressing poverty and inequality, including social protection policies, participatory development, and community-based development. The linkages between inequality, climate change and environmental degradation and their implications for development.
We encourage papers that adopt a critical and heterodox approach to development, drawing on diverse disciplinary perspectives including economics, sociology, political science and development studies. We also welcome papers that highlight the perspectives and experiences of marginalized communities and social groups.
Papers should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words and follow the author guidelines of the conference. Please submit your abstract (up to 500 words) to this Form by the 15th of April. If your abstract is accepted, you will be informed by the 30th of April. You will be invited to submit a full paper by the 30th of May. If you have any questions, please contact the WG's email.
